Genesis 48 – Jacob Blesses Joseph’s Sons

As Jacob nears death, Joseph brings his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, to him.

Jacob recalls God’s promises and adopts Joseph’s sons as his own, giving them an inheritance among his sons.

Jacob deliberately crosses his hands, placing his right hand on Ephraim, the younger, signifying that Ephraim would be greater than Manasseh.

Joseph protests, but Jacob insists this is God’s will.
Genesis 49 – Jacob’s Prophetic Blessings

Jacob gathers his twelve sons and prophesies over each one concerning their future tribes.

Reuben loses preeminence because of his instability and sin.

Judah is given the promise of rulership: “The sceptre shall not depart from Judah…” pointing to Christ.

Other tribes are described with symbolic blessings and destinies.

Jacob commands that he be buried with his fathers in the cave of Machpelah.
Genesis 50 – Jacob’s Death and Joseph’s Faith

Jacob dies, and Joseph and his brothers mourn deeply.

They bury Jacob in Canaan according to his wishes.

Afterward, Joseph’s brothers fear retribution, but Joseph reassures them, declaring: “Ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”

Joseph lives to see his grandchildren and makes the Israelites swear to carry his bones out of Egypt when God delivers them.

Joseph dies at 110 years old, ending the book of Genesis.
