Will Not Bow

By Hunter Grills

September 8, 2026

Esther 3:5-6 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath. 6 And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.

Haman was a wicked man who was an enemy of God’s people. His pride and arrogance fueled his hatred toward the Jewish people. The king had promoted Haman, and everyone was to bow and to reverence Haman. Mordecai, being a godly man, would not bow to this wicked Haman.

Esther 3:2 And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.

In the New Testament, the apostle Paul speaking to the Church in Corinth writes:

1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

As God’s children, we must not bow and give reverence to the wicked men and wicked ways of this world. Born-again believers must make a stand like Mordecai for what is right and not bow to the evils of this world no matter the cost. We must stand firm on the truths of God’s Word and must walk in all of His ways. May we never waver and cower to the spirit of this wicked Haman.

1 Corinthians 15:55-57 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflection—We must not fear black-hearted politicians who seek to destroy us.
