“And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham … Take now thy son, thy only son Isaac, … And get the into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of” (Gen.22:1–2, Cf Heb.11:17). Lord I believe, lead not into temptation.
Job was unwittingly locked in trial, test, and temptation that he did not understand and said, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust him” (Job.13:15). Lord, I trust you, lead not into temptation.
“He made for them a statute, and an ordinance, and there he proved them, … The LORD said, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven, … that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no” (Ex.15:25,16:4). “Yet they hardened their hearts in the day of temptation in the wilderness” (Heb.3:8). Lord, I will obey you, lead not into temptation.
Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil… He was in all points tempted … yet without sin,… And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season” (Matt.4:1, Heb.4:15, Luk.4:13). “Watch and pray, that you enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak … Pray that you enter not into temptation” (Matt.26:41, Luk.22:40).
Others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, … bonds and imprisonment, they were stoned, sawn asunder, tempted, were slain with the sword … (Heb.11:36-39). Our Father, which art in heaven, … Lead us not into temptation. Lead me beside the still waters, … lead me in paths of righteousness for thy name’s sake (Ps.23).
