A Christian Education – Part 2

2 Timothy 3:14-15 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
In my last devotion on a Christian Education, I tried to make the case from Scripture that a Christian education starts in the right kind of home, is reinforced in the right kind of church, and can flourish in the right kind of school. Now I want to answer what can happen when those three conditions are met.
The primary desired result is conversion. The Holy Scriptures are able to make a child wise to salvation. The child still must make the choice, but the opportunity is there. The heart of a child is good ground, and the Word is the Good Seed. A Christian education can set the conditions for a child’s conversion.
Paul uses the word “continue” to stress the need to pass the faith to the next generation. In II Timothy 2:2, Paul speaks of a faith that is four generational, passed along to “others also.”
One of the promising results of a Christian education is that the heart of a child is prepared to hear a call from the Lord. Not every child will be called to pastor or preach, as some will be called to be leaders in secular fields. My surgeon was educated in a Bible College for ministry, but his testimony is that God led him into medicine instead. I’m thankful that I had an Independent Baptist for my doctor.
In whatever area of ministry God calls, pray our children will answer. It is a holy and humbling call. 2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling….
Reflection—Lord, give us our children, help us to lead them to You, and to train them for Your service.
