Deep Roots

Colossians 2:6-7 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
Kudzu roots grow up to 7 inches in diameter and run deep, six feet plus. A plant grows about one foot a day. Though its roots have some nutritional value, it is an invasive plant that was introduced in the Southeast for erosion control years ago and has spread like wildfire. It kills other plants by smothering them under a blanket of leaves and can even uproot entire trees from the force of its weight. It is very difficult to kill it out.
In the Lord Jesus, you are more deeply rooted than Kudzu! It is impossible for your relationship with God, through Christ, to be killed out. You are well constructed upon Jesus. The Lord has your eternity all worked out from start to finish. Nothing can displace or dismantle you.
This truth is surely meant to help stabilize us in this crazy, mixed-up world. But it goes beyond the personal application. There is a world of souls who don’t know which end is up. They don’t know what lies ahead at the end of life’s journey. We who know are rooted and built up in Jesus, and we can help them. Even young people need someone spiritually stable to help them in their confusing days.
Are you living in the stability of your faith? The end of verse 7 says “abounding therein with thanksgiving.” Be a thankful person, not a thankless one. One is a blessing to be around, the other is a burden. One brings hope and joy, the other brightens up a room by leaving. You can make a difference.
Reflection—You can be a light in somebody’s darkness and joy to a heart that has been broken.
