Exodus 4 – God Equips Moses

  • God gives Moses miraculous signs (rod to serpent, leprous hand, water to blood) to prove He had sent him.

  • Moses protests his inability to speak; God appoints Aaron, his brother, as spokesman.

  • Moses returns to Egypt with his family, carrying the rod of God.

  • God reminds Moses that Pharaoh’s heart will be hardened.

  • Along the way, God confronts Moses about his son’s circumcision, and Zipporah intervenes.

  • Moses meets Aaron; together they tell the elders of Israel that God has remembered them, and the people believe.

Exodus 5 – Pharaoh’s Refusal

  • Moses and Aaron deliver God’s message: “Let my people go.”

  • Pharaoh responds defiantly, saying, “Who is the LORD?” and refuses.

  • He increases the burden on the Israelites, forcing them to make bricks without straw.

  • The foremen of Israel complain to Pharaoh and then blame Moses and Aaron.

  • Moses cries out to the LORD, questioning why He sent him, since things had only gotten worse.

Exodus 6 – God’s Covenant Reaffirmed

  • God reassures Moses that He will show His mighty hand and bring Israel out.

  • He reaffirms His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, declaring, “I am the LORD.”

  • God promises deliverance, redemption, and a land of inheritance.

  • The people, crushed by slavery, do not listen.

  • God commands Moses and Aaron to speak to Pharaoh again.

  • The chapter closes with the genealogy of Reuben, Simeon, and Levi, tracing Aaron and Moses’ priestly lineage.
