Genesis 45 – Joseph Reveals Himself

  • Joseph, overcome with emotion, reveals his true identity to his brothers.

  • He assures them that though they sold him, God sent him ahead to preserve life during the famine.

  • Pharaoh hears of Joseph’s family and offers them provision and land in Egypt.

  • Jacob (Israel) rejoices when he learns Joseph is alive and resolves to go see him.

Genesis 46 – Jacob Goes to Egypt

  • God speaks to Jacob in visions at Beersheba, reassuring him not to fear going to Egypt, for God will make him a great nation there.

  • Jacob and his family, seventy souls in all, travel to Egypt.

  • Joseph and Jacob reunite with a moving embrace after many years apart.

  • Joseph prepares to present his family to Pharaoh.

Genesis 47 – Jacob in Egypt

  • Pharaoh welcomes Jacob’s family and gives them land in Goshen.

  • Jacob blesses Pharaoh when introduced.

  • The famine continues, and Joseph wisely manages resources, buying land for Pharaoh and providing seed to the people.

  • Jacob lives in Egypt for 17 years, and before he dies, he makes Joseph swear to bury him in Canaan, not Egypt.
