The recommendation of a descriptive name and the election of the first ever African American president top the agenda as the Southern Baptist Convention holds its 2012 annual meeting in New Orleans June 19 – 20. Messengers will decide whether to adopt the informal “Great Commission Baptists,” moniker to erase potential barriers to the Gospel. Fred Luter, pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans, is unopposed for the presidency.
