We are to pray, “Hallowed be thy name.” A good way to hallow God’s name is to learn all you can about it. Moses got a crash course when he ask, When the people ask, What is your name? What shall I say unto them? Exodus 3:13–15 is the great “I AM” passage. It teaches the first of three compound-Jehovah names. “Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD (Jehovah) God (Elohim) of your fathers … hath sent me unto you” (vrs.15). Moses paid careful attention as God dictated to him the Genesis account where Abraham learned all six of the compound names of God. Would to God, all Christians would; most don’t even notice the difference between LORD God and Lord GOD, which carefully captures all three primary names of God. Then they miss Jehovah Sabaoth, the LORD of hosts, altogether.
After Abraham tithed to Malchizedek, king of Salem and priest of the most high God (El-Elyon Gen.14:18), he continues a walk with his Lord GOD to learn that he was also El-Shaddai (Almighty God) Gen.17:1, and El-Olam (everlasting God) Gen.21:33. Whats more, Jehovah (LORD) has seven compound names that title him everything a Redeemer ought to be: a) Jehovah-jireh, the LORD our provider, Gen.20:13; b) Jehovah-ra-ah, the LORD that healeth, Ex.15:26; c) Jehovah-nissi, the LORD our banner, 17:8–15; d) Jehovah-Shalom, the LORD our peace, Jud.6:24; e) Jehovah-ra-ah, the LORD my Shepherd, Ps.23; f) Jehovah-tsidkenu, the LORD our righteousness, Jer.23:6; g) Jehovah-shammah, the LORD is present, Ezek.48:35. When he walks with me and talks with me, I should know his name and answer back, Hallowed be thy name. It will take some 2Tim.2:15 type study to know his name and hallow it; just keep at it.
