The second book of the Holy Bible is consumed with the exodus of Israel from Egypt and the latter half of it is utterly consumed with the structure whereby God would tabernacle with man. There is foremost a trinity of precious metals and a trinity of precious colors. These were not selected in hindsight, they were created with foresight. The metals are not precious for their rarity, they are plentiful in God’s creation, the characteristics that God designed into the three, that makes them precious. Gold displays God’s righteousness, it is the most malleable and ductile metal in all his creation. It does not break down, corrode or tarnish and sheets of it must cover the 2’x15′ shittim boards standing around the most holy place. A plating of gold must cover every piece of shittim wood used in the Tabernacle furnishings, just as untarnishable righteousness of God must completely cover every human that would stand in God’s holy presence. The ark, the table, and the incense altar were made of shittim wood covered in gold. “Shittah” is God’s word, it has connotation of trash, refuse, or “the discarded”; in contrast prideful man supposes himself to be a very valuable aromatic and attractive Acacia wood. It is important to use God’s words not modernist ecumenical “scholars” words!
Silver tarnishes and needs perpetual attention to maintain its luster. It is however better than gold in thermal and electrical conductivity. Where God’s gold would touch dirt there are sockets, hooks or fillets of God’s silver. The 48 gold covered shittim wood boards of the tabernacle stood on sockets of silver (Exod.26).
Brass was designed by God as a representation of judgment; an alloy were too much copper makes it soft, too much zinc makes it brittle. God will not tabernacle with man until there is a just judgment of man’s sin. An altar of shittim wood overlaid in brass marked the entry into the tabernacle. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. The trio of colors is another essay.
