As Southern Baptists prepare to vote on the adoption of the descriptor “Great Commission Baptists,” African American pastors are adding insight on how well the reference will improve the convention’s cross-cultural attraction. The use of the term “Southern” in the SBC’s name has been described as reminiscent of the Old South and the Confederacy, and as an impediment to church planters in the North.
