Msg #2626 Which Art In Heaven

What The Bible Says

Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice

Jesus said, “When ye pray, say, Our Father, which art in heaven …” (Luk11:2); God’s dwelling place is heaven. Eight times in Solomon’s Temple dedication prayer he said, “hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place” (1Ki.8). God responded, “then will I hear from heaven” (2Chron.7:14). There are three heavens called out in the Bible, the heaven where birds fly, where stars fly, and where God dwells; two are vast, one is infinite.

Earth’s atmosphere with depth of 6,000 miles merges into the vacuum of space and is divided into 5 layers. The first wherein birds fly is 10 miles high and contains clouds and weather; but a stratosphere where planes fly above the weather extends up to 35 miles, and a mesosphere where temperatures dip -130 F, and meteors burn up, extends to 53 miles. There’s more, Revelation 21 describes a four-square city 1,500 miles high. It sets on a new heaven and new earth; on this one, the fastest elevator we’ve made would take 33 hours to get to the top floor; bring a folding-cot and thermal underwear.

Where stars fly, there is our tiny solar system, where our planet is bb-sized orbiting a basketball-sized sun, all fitting into a galaxy with billions (with a B) of other solar-stars. Our Milky Way galaxy fits into a Universe with billions (with a B) of other galaxies, all having billions of stars, and a black hole center where matter itself is coming n going. And all that fits into the firmament God made on Monday of his Creation account! The third heaven, above that finite firmament, is where the fullness of God dwells.

“For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the LORD behold the earth” and “God so loved the world…” (Ps.102:19,John.3:16).
