Msg #2615 Samaritans Saved
What The Bible Says
Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice
The Acts of the Apostles are documented by God to carefully show how the Savior went UP, the Spirit came DOWN, the Saints went OUT, and the Sinners came IN; as articulated by the late great evangelist, Harold Boyd. Saints going OUT needs a great repetition in every generation. The great commission given in the four gospels (Matt.28:19–20,Mrk.16:15,Lke.24:46–48,Jhn.20:21) is consolidated in Acts 1:8 and enacted in Acts 8:1. “And ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.… at that time, there was a great persecution against the church, which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles” (Acts.1:8,8:1). Persecution is a wind intent on blowing out a candle, which ignites an inferno when it hits the glowing embers of gathered believers. God’s intent is seen in Acts.8:4 “therefore they that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word”, and it’s result is documented in 8:5–8. Samaritans were not Gentiles, but they were not Jews per se. Jesus called one healed of leprosy, a thankful “stranger” (Luk.17:18) and yet taught Samaritans that he was Messiah (Jhn.4:40–42). Now Philip, one of the seven deacons of Acts 6, had the people of the city of Samaria, giving heed with one accord, to what he preached; “and there was great joy in that city” (8:8). Salvation always brings great joy. In 8:17, at the hands of Apostles, these Samaritan believers received the Holy Ghost. The “gift of tongues”, so misconstrued by Pentecostal brethren, is nowhere mentioned in Acts8; it was a sign gift for Jews, that in time ceased. The Saints went OUT and in Acts 8 gospel preaching engulfed Samaritans, … but wait there’s more.
