Msg #2613 Palm Sunday
What The Bible Says
Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice
We call it Palm Sunday, the day they escorted Jesus into Jerusalem, amid cries of, “Hosanna to the son of David,… Hosanna in the highest,… Hosanna: blessed is the king of Israel, that cometh in the name of the Lord” (Matt.21:9,Jhn.12:13). At the Friday feast, two days earlier, Jesus sat with Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead 40 days earlier. There Mary anointed Jesus with a pound of costly ointment, just like she had three years earlier when he forgave her of her sins. That supper with Lazarus, six days before the Passover, pushed the chief priest into the jealous rage that led to the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. God controlled the calendar to where his Son, the Lamb that taketh away the sin of the world, the Passover lamb for mankind, would die on the cross on the 14th day of the month of Abib. For 1,522 years previous the Pascal lamb was to be slain on that very day of the year. Now the antitype, God‘s only begotten Son, fulfilled Exodus 12:6, “On the 14th day of the same month, the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.” But there’s more, this prophetic chapter says, “In the 10th day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb,… Your lamb shall be without blemish,… You shall take it out from the sheep,… And you shall keep it up until the 14th day.” (Exod.12:3–6). In that Palm Sunday, the 10th of Abib, the Sunday before Passover, the Paschal lamb was separated from the ‘sheep’ and proven spotless for four days. A genuine Bible student can examine those four days in detail from the four Gospels. Be that student this week. God bless your studies (2Tim.2:15).
