Msg#2551 Wise Men Still Seek Him
What The Bible Says
Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice
“Wisdom has builded her house, she has hewn out her seven pillars.” Solomon set the stage for those who would pursue wisdom, and he tasked all sons of men to take up the quest. Those with a drive to discover, a hunger to learn, a desire to know, have tremendous resources afoot. In the last century of BC wise men use tremendous resources to step into the first century of AD because they knew there was a coming Messiah, an Anointed of Jehovah God, born King of the Jews. They came to Jerusalem; they came to worship him. God had shown them his star in the East (Matt.2:1-2). Six centuries earlier a million Jews were exiled to the East; they brought the oracles of God. They stayed for less than a century and while there they wrote more oracles of God. Gabriel, the Angel-Messenger that came to Zacharias to announce John, then to Mary to announce JESUS, had come to the prophet Daniel to announce the exact time of Messiah’s coming (Dan.9). Wise men studied scripture to know these oracles of God; they still do, and they are still the minority among scoffers. I heard a Rabbi say this week “Today, 2 million Islamists want to annihilate 14 million Jews, and no one should turn a blind eye.”
Sixty years ago I was given a Scofield Reference Bible and I read Daniel with wonder. Thirty years ago I retired from the US Air Force and came to Yates county to preach the gospel of Christ and teach the prophecies of Daniel. I expected a larger audience, but this one thing I know, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law does he meditate day and night” (Ps.1). Be a student of Scripture. Wise men still seek him.
