Msg#2546 Amazing Praising
What The Bible Says
Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice
Four times in 43 verses of Psalms 107 the Psalmist writes “Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!” The times are set in staging areas where men were delivered 1) from hunger and thirst, 2) from the shadow of death, 3) from a fool’s affliction and 4) from the storms of distress and trouble. It’s amazing what praising can do. In our nation November is blessed with a National Day of Thanksgiving, and this year it is plagued with a godless slide into Marxist Socialism! Let us heed the Psalmist and double-down on praise and thanksgiving. Depraved man’s first two steps away from God are 1) they glorified him not as God, and 2) neither were they thankful (Rom.1:20-23). A month of praise and thanksgiving is in good order; “Oh that men would praise the Lord!” OT Levites, able ministers, were to “stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord” (1Chron.23:30), we should do no less. In this present distress, in heartache, in pain, in victory & defeat, in success & failure, in stress & peace, in discord & accord, and in discouragement & encouragement, stand, thank and praise the Lord. The Psalmist put it “Why art thou cast down, oh my soul? Why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance and my God” (Psa.42:11,43:5). Praise changes your brain chemistry faster than Prozac musters serotonin! Side effects are all blessings. America is a mess, filled with stinking thinking, but “He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord” (Ps.40:3).(ThanksGiving-2Cor.4:15,9:11,Phil.4:6,Col.2:7,4:2,1Tim.4:4,Rev.7:12) (PraiseYe-Ps.104:35,106:1,48,111:1,112:1,113:1,9,116:19,117:2,135:1,21,146:1,147:1,20,148:1,14,149:1,9,150:1,Jer.20:13)
