Msg #2641 The Time of Jacob’s Trouble
What The Bible Says
Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice
From the Mount of Olives speaking of his Second Coming Jesus told the Jews, “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be” (Matt.24:21). John, writing in the Revelation of Jesus Christ about “things that shall be hereafter” (i.e. after the church saints are “caught up to meet the Lord in the air”) describes this Great Tribulation. The Bible states it, “Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it” (Jer.30:7). The Bible student understands it to be a seven (7) year period, the seventieth week of Daniel 9:24-27’s Seventy Weeks, each week a seven year period. This great tribulation opens in Revelation 5 with a book sealed with seven seals, to be opened only by the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, a Lamb as it had been slain. The seals on this Title Deed of all the nations of the earth, are opened in chapter 6, and the kings of the earth say to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb. In chapter 8-9 the pealed back seventh seal reveals seven angels given seven trumpets warning with a foretaste of the seven vials of the wrath of God that is to come. “And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever” (Rev.11:15). The King of kings is coming, and he will save Israel.
