Running The Race

Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
The Christian life has many difficulties, problems, and many highs and lows. The Bible compares the Christian life to a race. Paula and I have been on this path and in the race since 1969. Difficulties of all sorts must be overcome, and dangers avoided. Sometimes all of us get weary, and we aren’t sure what’s ahead, and we get discouraged. The temptation is to collapse where we are and stop going forward.
But we must remember, we are not running this race alone. We have the presence of our loving Father and the power of the Holy Spirit within us. The goal is always before us, and the Bible tells us to “run with patience” the race that is set before us. Paul admonishes us to “finish the course” in Acts 20:24.
What about you dear friend? Have you come to a standstill in your Christian life? Maybe you have gotten discouraged and dropped out. Let me encourage you to “Keep on – Keeping on.” The end is within sight, and we have a job to do. Soon we will cross the finish line and hear the Father say, “Well done thou good and faithful servant.”
Reflection—There is companionship in the race (“let us”), and it is not a race of competition but of concentration, consecration, and completion.
