Exodus 29 – The Consecration of the Priests

  1. Consecration of Aaron and his sons

    • God commands Moses to sanctify Aaron and his sons for the priesthood.

    • The process includes offerings (a bullock and two rams), unleavened bread, cakes, and wafers.

  2. Washing and Vesting

    • Aaron and his sons are washed with water.

    • Aaron is clothed with the holy garments: coat, robe, ephod, breastplate, and mitre with the holy crown.

  3. Anointing

    • The tabernacle and all its vessels are anointed with oil.

    • Aaron is anointed, and his sons are sprinkled with blood and oil.

  4. Sin Offering and Burnt Offering

    • A bullock is offered as a sin offering.

    • One ram is offered as a burnt offering, wholly consumed.

  5. Ram of Consecration

    • The second ram’s blood is applied to the right ear, thumb, and toe of Aaron and his sons—symbolizing hearing, serving, and walking in holiness.

    • Portions are waved before the Lord and eaten by the priests at the door of the tabernacle.

  6. Seven-Day Consecration

    • This consecration lasts seven days.

    • Two lambs are offered daily, morning and evening.

    • God promises to dwell among Israel and sanctify the tabernacle by His glory.

Exodus 30 – Holy Furnishings and Atonement

  1. Altar of Incense

    • A golden altar is to be made for burning incense.

    • Incense is burned every morning and evening when lamps are trimmed.

  2. Atonement Money

    • Every man 20 years and older gives half a shekel atonement money when numbered, for the service of the tabernacle.

  3. Laver of Brass

    • A brass laver (wash basin) is made for Aaron and his sons to wash hands and feet before ministering, lest they die.

  4. Holy Anointing Oil

    • A sacred anointing oil is made from pure myrrh, cinnamon, calamus, cassia, and olive oil.

    • It is holy and must not be used for common purposes.

  5. Holy Incense

    • A special incense is compounded from stacte, onycha, galbanum, and frankincense.

    • It is reserved only for the worship of the Lord and may not be duplicated for personal use.
