Msg#2506 Three Veils Unveiled

What The Bible Says

Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice

In the Bible a veil on a woman was equivalent to a marriage proposal. Christian weddings still use this symbology. Isaac’s “Behold the camels are coming,” resulted in Rebekah’s “she took a veil and covered herself” (Gen.24:61-67); she approached the one she was to marry. Same custom, uglier context, look at Tamar, playing the role of a harlot, “she put her widows garments off from her, and covered her with a veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place” (Gen.38:14). Same custom, prophetic context, look at the veil Ruth wore when she proposed to her Kinsman Redeemer “He said, bring the veil that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city” (Ruth.3:15). This was provision, until her Kinsman Redeemer came to pick her up! Wow.

In the Bible there was a veil that divided between the Hebrew Tabernacle’s holy place and “the most holy”; The Ark was in “the most holy place” (Exod.26:31-35, Num.4:5). Under law there was no access to the most holy or the Ark of the Covenant, but in Christ, under grace, that veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom! (Matt.27:51,Mark.15:38,Luk.23:45).

In the Bible when Moses gave all that the LORD had spoken in Mount Sinai, he put a veil upon his face (Exod.34:29-35). Minds were blinded: “for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which veil is done away in Christ” (2Cor.3:12-18). The preacher of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, has no veil, he is to use “great plainness of speech.”

Three powerful prophetic portrayals of what one has “in Christ.” PTL!
