Msg #2634 Delivery From Evil
What The Bible Says
Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice
“Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil” brings several things to mind. Jabez steps onto the page of my Bible in one verse, then steps off in the next; “Jabez was more honorable than his brethren … He called on the God of Israel, saying, … Oh, that thou would keep me from evil that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.” Job steps onto the page of my Bible, and in the next 35 verses is subjected to every trial, test, and evil, that Satan could throw at him. It is then pondered for 890 verses and answered by God in 129. Job was brought into temptation and endured evil.
Daniel and three friends were lead into temptation, but delivered from the evil of a government. David was anointed to be king then for six years (13 chapters) he was pursued by Saul who would do him evil. He wrote 75 Psalms and said “Deliver me, oh LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man” (Ps.140:1).
Abigail interceded and kept David from his own evil vengeance against Nabel. I count 13 Bible times I’m told “Depart from evil, and do good; … Fear the Lord and depart from evil.” Delivering us from evil is 3D, involving Satan, Man, and Me.
Jesus “gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, … the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. … And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work.” (Gal.1:4, 2Th.3:3, 2Tim.4:18)
Lord, lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
