Msg #2614 A Genuine Easter Egg Hunt
What The Bible Says
Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice
“And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came onto the sepulcher at the rising of the sun” (Mrk.16:2). Might be it was a zealous Sunday-School teacher who illustrated this verse with being up before the chickens and seeing a bunny in the garden, … Regardless, we have a major distraction orchestrated into this Sunday after that Passover. Satan loves distractions that veil the truth about the Passover Lamb crucified on that date and resurrected from the dead three days later. A “Genuine Easter Egg Hunt” would begin in John 12 “six days before the passover,” where, at a feast with a resurrected Lazarus, Mary anointed Jesus “against the day of his burying.” The chief priests got angrier than a kicked-down hornet nest (vrs.10–11). Exodus 12 teaches the pattern of the very first Passover, where the lamb was separated on the 10th and killed on the 14th. The student on this quest might then read every gospel account of the Triumphal Entry wherein his Passover Lamb was separated with a shout, “Hosanna to the Highest.” Now, take four days to search out every teaching, every parable, every fig tree, every early morning arrival at the temple, each foot washing and prayer meeting that brought our Spotless Lamb to the 14th day of that month. Then take three days to read and reread each gospel account of his trial, his cruel mocking, his crucifixion, and entombment. Such a week of preparation fits that Easter Sunday, that first day of the week starting at sunrise. Now take the day to search out the “many infallible proofs” of that Resurrection day, and of the 40 days after; that genuine quest will establish an Easter Worship without colored eggs or chocolate bunnies, and bless one’s soul.
