He’s Not Done

2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

An immediate change takes place when you are born again. You are born into the family of God, and the blessed Holy Spirit takes up permanent residence within you. As a spiritual newborn, you begin to grow in the Lord through prayer and by obedience to the Word of God.

As you grow in the Lord, you become different. You are not what you will be, but thankfully, you are not what you used to be. Growing speaks of change, and in the spiritual realm, for the better. If you are growing, you are becoming more like the Lord. It is your destiny and heritage because God has so ordained it.

Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son….

The song goes, “He’s still working on me; to make me what I need to be….” The Lord is truly loving and patient to keep at it. He knows how to accomplish a perfect product in the end. As Creator He made everything, and as Man Jesus learned the building trade. He used materials He had created to make things. He could take a tree and turn it into a plough, a bowl, a desk, a bed, or a building. It starts with a solid foundation, and the more accurate the measurements along the way, the better finished product. Square. Level. Plumb.

Add to that, as Saviour, the Lord Jesus has redeemed you and given you eternal life. You are the perfect building material for His eternal plans. He’s building and growing you into what will end up being a perfect replica of He Himself—conformed to the image of His Son.

Reflection—Enjoy this truth, and realize that He’s still working on you—and others.
