Your Name
For Women By Women

Isaiah 43:1 …Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
Our names are very important to us. If we are involved in an event that lists the names of the participants in a printed program, the first thing we do is look for our own name. I remember doing that at my high school and Bible College graduations, at piano recitals, at plays, and other programs.
Names are important to God, too. There are whole chapters in the Bible that are comprised totally of lists of names. 1 Chronicles chapters 1-9 starts with Adam, goes through the patriarchs, the twelve tribes of Israel, and the returning exiles. Other genealogies are found in several chapters in Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Ezra, and Nehemiah. In the New Testament, Matthew gives us the royal lineage of Christ through David. Luke records His humanity by going all the way back to Adam.
Probably most of the people listed in the Bible genealogies did not know their names were written in the Bible. But God recorded their names for posterity. God loves us, and to encourage us to accept Christ as our Saviour so that our names will be in that Book of Life, He tells us how much He loves us throughout Scripture.
God knows all about us.
- He knows us before we are born—Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee….
- He knows every detail about us—Matthew 10:30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
- He calls us by name—John 10:3 …he calleth his own sheep by name….
- God never forgets His children. There is a permanent bond between Him and us—Isaiah 49:16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands….
Reflection—God knows YOUR name, and you matter to Him.
