A Christian Education

2 Timothy 3:14-15 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
I was asked recently to speak on Christian Education. We are in competition with opposing world views in education with secular humanism, Marxist socialism, and increasingly with Islamist philosophy. More than ever, we need to give our children a Christian education with a Biblical world view.
A Christian education begins in the home. In the right kind of home, Scripture can be planted in the heart of a child as it was in Timothy’s. Deuteronomy chapter six was explicit in the centrality on Scripture in the early education of children.
The right kind of church will re-enforce a Christian education with sound Bible teaching and preaching. The church is the “pillar and ground of the truth” (I Timothy 3:15) and provides a firm foundation that works with the family.
When the parent makes the choice of schooling for their children, the right kind of school will cause a Christian education to flourish. The heart and mind of the child is ground, fertile and ready to grow any seeds sown in it, good seed or bad.
This is the critical choice parents must make, and the responsibility should weigh heavily and not be taken lightly. Every one that touches the child’s life—in the home, the church, and the school—will have an impact on the child’s education, and these all need to do their best to influence the child for Christ.
With the Lord’s help and working together to put the good seed into the good soil, we can be confident that it will not be in vain. And in time, we can expect to see fruit, some thirty-fold, some sixty-fold, and some hundred-fold.
Reflection—Only the Scriptures can make one wise to salvation.
