The Work of God

1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

In a recent conversation with another preacher, we discussed how sometimes when men fail, we need to remember God never fails, and His works cannot be undone.

Scripture draws a clear line between the works of Satan and the works of God. One is temporary, fragile, and destined for destruction. The other is eternal, unshakable, and forever established in Heaven. Christ came “that he might destroy the works of the devil.” Satan builds, but Christ breaks. Satan binds, but Christ looses. Satan deceives, but Christ reveals. Every scheme of the enemy can be overturned by the power of the Son of God.

From the beginning, Satan’s works have been marked by instability. “He is a liar, and the father of it” (John 8:44). Lies collapse when truth appears. Darkness flees when light shines. Bondage breaks when the Deliverer steps in. When Jesus healed the oppressed, cast out devils, and opened blind eyes, He was demonstrating that no work of Satan is permanent. Every chain forged by the enemy can be shattered by the authority of Christ.

In contrast, the works of God cannot be undone. Ecclesiastes 3:14 I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it….

What God establishes, no enemy can uproot. What God blesses, no curse can reverse. What God promises, no power can cancel. His Word is settled forever in heaven, and His counsel shall stand.

Satan stirred men to crucify Christ, but God raised Him from the dead. The enemy’s greatest work became the stage for God’s greatest victory. The resurrection is eternal; it cannot be undone.

Reflection—Man is made for forever. The Lord changes a heart, hears the sinner’s plea, and saves one forever.
