Before reading Acts 10 one should rehearse the tremendous miracle taking place when God puts Peter into a four-cornered trance. In a remarkable portrayal, before God “utterly takes away” ten tribes of Israel by the Assyrians (722BC), his prophet Hosea has three children and names them God-sows, No-mercy, and Not-my-people (Hosea.1: 1–10). God gave these names because he would “cause to cease the kingdom of Israel” (vr.4), and would “no more have mercy upon the house of Israel” (vr.6), and said “for ye are not my people, and I will not be your God” (vr.9). But wait, there’s more: God also says, “but I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and will save them”(vr.7), and “in the place it was said to them, ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, ye are the sons of the living God” (vr.10). Later God tells-all, “As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God” (Jhn.1:11-12).

But wait, there’s more: in Hosea chapter 2, after a long chastisement (vr.1–13), God restores the mother of those children (vr.14), makes a new covenant (vr.18), and sows a new relationship (Jezreel = God sows), just as a corn of wheat falls into the ground (Jhn.12:24), “And I will sow her unto me in the earth… And I will say to them, which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God” (Hos.2:22–23).

In Romans 9 Paul clarifies that this applies “not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles” (vrs.22-26), and in Romans 11, the wild olive tree i.e. Gentile, is graffed into the root, Christ, and Gentiles receive salvation (vrs.1-36). Now read in Acts 10 how God brings Peter to preach to the Gentiles.
