What The Bible Says

Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God” (Ps 42:11,43:5). The Psalmist calls his God, “The health of his countenance”, and the Proverb promises “health to the navel, and marrow to the bones” (Prov.3:8). In praising, in fearing, in blessing, in thanksgiving, in singing, and in hope, it is health for the countenance, thy navel, and thy marrow. “My son, attend to my words; … keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh … health to the bones” (Prov.4:20-22,16:24). God issues health assurance policies, and it would be wise, in this day of insurance fraud, and medical malpractice, to pursue his promises. In a month where we have a National Day of Thanksgiving it would be prudent for every born-again Bible believer to spend it in daily praise and psalm, thanksgiving and blessing. It will change your countenance, affect those around us, bring glory to his name, and improve your health. “Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!” (Ps.107:8). “Teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Col.3:16). “We will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD”(Ps.115:18). “That the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God” (2Cor.4:15). “I will praise the LORD with my whole heart” (Ps.111:1).“Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen” (Rev.7:12).
