Msg#2539b The Day of Atonement

For far too long Hebrews and Christians have ignored the prophetic implications of the three fall feasts of ingathering at the years end (Lev.23:23-44). Collectively these holy-days of the Hebrew’s seventh month are called the “Feast of Tabernacles” (Lev.16:16), and consist of a memorial blowing of trumpets on day-1, a day of atonement on day-10, and a Seven-Day feast of Tabernacles on day-15. (By no coincidence the “Feast of Unleavened-Bread” was marked by a day-1 beginning of the year, a day-10 separation of a lamb, and a day-15 Seven-Day feast (Exod.12). All the feasts are remarkably prophetic.) The ending of the year with an “ingathering” is remarkably prophetic; it has an announcement by a trumpet call, a day of atoning, and a tabernacling that is not of this world. Any Christian cognizant of 1Thes.4, 1Cor.15, and Rev.4, needs no other parallel to be drawn. This week (2025) the evening of October 1st marks the 10th of Ethanim (Tishri), the holiest day of the Hebrew year, called Yom Kippur. “It shall be a holy convocation (a sacred assembly for worship, reading, and teaching) unto you and ye shall afflict your souls” (Lev.23:27). Here the stress is put upon the sorrow and repentance of Israel, wherein the prophetic is made prominent, in looking forward to their repentance, after their regathering, and before the 1,000 year tabernacling with their Lord. Christians might well use this year’s Day of Atonement “afflicting of our souls” with sorrow and repentance, fasting and prayer, for our own splintered and shut down government, our own divided demonic anti-semitic direction, as well as Israel’s affliction and quest for the Peace of Jerusalem (Psalm.122). Our own midweek 1 Oct. prayer services could address this need for afflicted souls, and the call for fasting and prayer. God bless your Wednesday.
