Msg#2517 An Easter Afterthought

What The Bible Says

Good Samaritan’s Penny Pulpit by Pastor Ed Rice

After Jesus’ Palm Sunday triumphal entry into Jerusalem, he did only one miracle per se; the Bible says, Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered. And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. … And his disciples heard it. And in the morning, as they passed by, … Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive (Mt.21:18-22, Mrk.11:12-22). The miracle illuminates both the failure and abandonment Judaism, and the power of genuine faith in the upcoming age. The dispensation of law ends, the dispensation of grace says, “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it” (Jhn.14:13-14). It was sola fida, fifteen-hundred years before Protestants got to it! Salvation has never been sacraments, suffering, penance, and purgatory, it has always been “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Rom.10:13). A prayer of faith brings salvation, but don’t let that be an afterthought, make it the forefront of a new life in Christ. “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. … that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you” (Jhn.15:7,16). “Pray without ceasing” (1Thes.5:17).
