There is coming a Day of the Lord that is thoroughly described in the Revelation of Jesus Christ. Therein Christ is revealed as King of kings and Lord of lords (Rev.19:11-21,20:1-3) and therein is depicted the much talked about Battle of Armageddon; “And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon” (Rev.16:16). There are seven precursors to this battle. (1) A falling away of the church, “for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first” (2Thes.2:3), i.e. a Laodicean church age (Rev.3:14-19). (2) A “catching away” of church saints (1Thes.4,1Cor.15); i.e. Christ does not come WITH his saints, until after he comes FOR his saints. (3) “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD” (Mal.4:5): i.e. two indestructible witnesses for 3 ½ years (Rev.11:1-6) and the 144K Jewish virgin male witnesses (Rev 7:1-8,14:1-5). (4) The opening of seven seals (Rev.6:1,3,5,7,9,12,8:1). (5) Seven trumpets of warning (Rev.8:2,7,8,10,12,9:1,13,11:15), “Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: … for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand” (Joel.2:1). (6) “For that day shall not come, except … that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition ” (2Thes.2:3): i.e. the abomination of desolation, revealed 3 ½ years into the great tribulation, when Satan is cast from heaven (Rev.12-13) kills the two witnesses (11:7), and does signs and wonders via his false prophet (13:13). And lastly, (7) Seven vials of God’s wrath are poured out (Rev.13:1-12,17).“But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. … ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief” (1Thes.5:1-4). Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
