Exodus 14 – The Red Sea Crossing

  • Pharaoh’s heart is hardened once more, and he pursues Israel with his army.

  • The Israelites fear when they see the Egyptians coming, but Moses encourages them to stand still and see the salvation of the LORD.

  • God parts the Red Sea through Moses’ outstretched hand, and Israel crosses on dry ground.

  • Pharaoh’s army follows but is destroyed when the waters return.

  • The LORD delivers His people, and they see the Egyptians dead upon the seashore.


Exodus 15 – The Song of Moses and Bitter Waters Made Sweet

  • Moses and the children of Israel sing a song of victory and praise, glorifying God as their strength, salvation, and deliverer.

  • Miriam the prophetess leads the women with timbrels and dances.

  • The people journey into the wilderness of Shur and find no water for three days.

  • At Marah, the waters are bitter, but the LORD shows Moses a tree to cast into the waters, making them sweet.

  • The LORD promises health and blessing if they obey His commandments.

  • They arrive at Elim, where there are twelve wells of water and seventy palm trees.


Exodus 16 – Manna and Quail from Heaven

  • The congregation murmurs for food, longing for Egypt.

  • The LORD provides quail in the evening and manna in the morning, bread from heaven.

  • The people are instructed to gather only enough for each day, except on the sixth day when they gather double for the Sabbath.

  • Some disobey and find their manna spoiled, but the manna gathered on the sixth day remains fresh for the seventh.

  • The manna is described as small, white, and tasting like wafers made with honey.

  • An omer of manna is kept before the LORD as a testimony for future generations.
